about

*I wrote this after hearing of the passing of grandfather while I was living in Morocco. I was alone and away from family and the only thing I could think to do was walk by the Port of Tangier. When I came back late at night, I wrote this tune. While writing it, a friend a colleague at the orphanage, Dar Lekbira, passed away. Her name was Oulaya. She dedicated her life to caring for those kids need. This song is therefore dedicated to Oulaya and my grandfather.

Written and recorded in a living room in Tangier, Morocco

lyrics

I got a message you'd passsed,
Didn't know what to say,
Knew not how to act

We'll miss your style,
We'll miss your grace,
You gave it all to the great surrender

What is that your Quran say...
That we live and die in Allah's name...

We'll miss your style,
We'll miss your grace,
You gave it all to the great surrender

The children will miss you of this I'm sure,
You were a light in their world so poor...

Ohh Oulaya,
Well miss your grace
You gave it all to the Great Surrender

You gave me a father,
You gave me a dad,
What a fine son that you have,

Markings in the sand,
They tell the life you lived,
You gave it all to the great surrender.

The ships at the dock,
They all ready to swim,
They all ready to go to the Great Surrender....
